Laying the Asphalt
A driveway is only as good as its compaction. We place the asphalt mixture with a paver at a uniform speed to maintain a consistent mat thickness across the entire grade. While the mat is still hot, we begin breakdown rolling close behind the paver. Using a vibratory steel-drum roller, we follow up with intermediate compaction and finish rolling to lock the aggregate in place and create a dense, water-shedding surface.
Timing and Winter Limitations
Paving requires hot material, and timing dictates when we can work. Cleveland asphalt plants do not operate during the colder months, limiting new installations to the warmer seasons. If a driveway fails in January, patching it with cold-mix is only a temporary bandage, cold-mix repairs do not last as well as hot-mix asphalt. We schedule new driveway installations when the plants are running and ambient temperatures allow for proper compaction before the mat cools.

Managing Water and Flood Risks
Water destroys more asphalt than traffic. Properties near the Hiwassee River, South Mouse Creek, Candies Creek, Fillauer Branch, and Cohulla Creek floodplains face higher risks of standing water and saturated bases. Before planning any driveway grading or drainage changes, we check the property’s location relative to these zones. The new pavement must be pitched correctly to shed runoff away from the foundation and keep water from pooling on vulnerable sites.
Pricing a New Driveway
A new asphalt driveway installation runs $7 to $13 per square foot. The final price depends on how much base work is required, the grading necessary to manage runoff, and the total square footage. We evaluate the site's soil conditions and drainage needs before providing a firm number, ensuring the subgrade is prepared to support the new pavement without settling.
Getting Started Is Simple
-
Call or Text
Tell us what you're seeing and when it started, you'll get a straight answer, not a sales pitch.
-
On-Site Inspection
A tech inspects the problem in person, no guessing from photos, no drive-by quotes.
-
Clear, Written Quote
You get the scope and the price in writing before any work starts. No surprises.
-
We Do the Work
Our crew does the work, checks it, and leaves the site clean. You see everything we did.
What this typically involves:
- Proof-roll the prepared subgrade to check that it supports haul traffic, and correct soft areas before paving.
- Remove and replace failed pavement before overlaying rather than covering failed areas with new asphalt alone.
What It Typically Costs
Typical ranges, not a fixed price - the exact number is confirmed in writing before work starts.
$250–$500
$100–$200
