Equipment and Process

We operate a self-propelled cold planer equipped with a rotating milling drum. The drum is fitted with replaceable cutting teeth that shave away the asphalt at a set depth. As the machine moves forward, we convey the removed asphalt directly into haul trucks as milling progresses. The teeth wear down over a job, so we swap them out to maintain a clean cut.

Subgrade and Local Soils

This soil class can have high volume change or low density, making subgrade conditions worth checking before paving. On nearly level creekside flats beside the Conasauga and Coahulla, Chenneby and Arkabutla soils are somewhat poorly drained. A driveway in these spots often needs planned drainage instead of relying on natural slope. We also factor in the freeze-thaw movement caused by occasional winter freezes.

Material Transport and Pricing

Once the asphalt is off the ground, we transport the milled material for reuse or disposal as directed for the job. For milling 2 to 4 inches deep, the cost is $5 to $8 per square yard.
